Hi, I'm Shelby

I got into matcha the way most people get into anything: obsessively and slightly inconveniently. I was the person looking up which cafes actually carried it. Doing the research. Ruining it at home a few times. Starting over.

I loved it before it was easy to find. And then when it got easy to find, I noticed something: most of it wasn't very good. And none of it looked good either. The same generic green tins, the same forgettable packaging. Nothing worth leaving out.

The category blew up fast. "Ceremonial grade" became a label anyone could slap on a tin. No regulation, no standard, no definition anyone has to honor. Just words that may or may not mean anything. We use the term. We think it still means something. But we're not asking you to take our word for it. Every tin we carry is single-origin, sourced from Japan, and the real thing by any traditional measure. The label is shorthand. Our sourcing is the actual answer.

Making my matcha is the little moment in my day I look forward to the most. I wanted a tin that felt that way too. Something worth leaving on your counter, tossing in your bag, setting on your desk, packing in your suitcase. An accent, not an afterthought.

I started Whskd in 2025 because I had too many opinions to keep to myself. Good taste, real standards, no lecture, and packaging you actually leave out. The first tin is our Yame first harvest ceremonial grade. Creamy, naturally sweet, with a depth of umami. More regions and harvests are on the way. Whether you already know your matcha or you're just getting curious, you're in the right place.
